Kodak Moments is a Facebook Messenger chatbot that searches through your photo gallery and suggests your favourites for printing via Kodak services.
The chatbot is hosted in the Kodak Moments Assistant Facebook profile. Once in the profile, you open a dialogue with the Messenger chatbot and give permission to access your profile. The chatbot goes on to try and find your most important memories. Your ‘Kodak’ moments.
Not happy with the result? The chatbot can go again. You’ll get an option to search more moments that include the people in that photo, try a new search, or follow the link to ‘free’ printing services.
The chatbot in itself is free, with the aim of the user choosing Kodak’s printing services for that photo.
So how effective is the chatbot? What is its hit ratio of precious memories?
Kodak Moments: Does it work?
Well, my first search result was the announcement and first photo of my baby daughter. Tick. Next result, one of my favourite photos of me with my baby daughter. Tick again. Third time round, a picture of lightning during an epic thunderstorm, the likes of which I haven’t seen before or since in the UK.
At this point, I was beginning to think that the AI algorithm chooses my photos that are accompanied by superlatives. Yet, fourth time around it suggests a cool group photo from an 80’s themed party, that has no caption.
I won’t cover all my search results, but to me, the suggestions have been largely good. Look, you may or may not have the same positive experience. There are no filter options asides from following the aforementioned search options prompted after each result.
You may find memories from times you’d rather forget. (Do you keep those rubbish memories on Facebook?) On the other hand, your Facebook life may be one great event after another. Just like mine, obviously 😉
In either case, I did find myself intrigued by what image would pop up next, time and time again. In that sense, it’s a fun game. Yet, in one sense all this leads to is getting prints. I don’t really print images as much anymore, so from that point, I like the process.
Kodak Moments: App and Website
In addition to the Facebook Messenger chatbot, there is also a Kodak Moments App and a website. The app can search your Facebook or Google accounts.
