Camera stabilisation company, Film Power has released it’s next generation 3-axis stabiliser, the Nebula 5100. Although the standard single-handed 3-axis design may look familiar, the Nebula 5100 has some compelling new features.
First off, the high-torque motors are powerful enough to hold an enthusiast size DSLR and lens. The torque of the motors is powerful enough that Film Power claim that there is no need to balance the camera and gimbal. Quite how true this is remains to be seen, and will also be dependent on the camera and lens being used. The battery life is claimed to be an impressive 8-10 hours, but again, this will depend on exactly how much work the motors have to do. Added to this the motors have built-in encoders. Encoders are used in premium stabilisation systems to help monitor the angles and direction of movement and prevent sudden shifts.
Clever internal cabling enables all 3-axis to be able to rotate full through 360 degrees, so you wont do a panning motion and suddenly find a bump at the end. As standard, movement can also be controlled via a joystick on the camera handle.
All of this comes in a solid, all metal, construction.
The Nebula 5100 can be pre-ordered until the end of March for a special price of $759 (usually $859). See Film Power website for more information
