It is the tenth lens to be release in the Milvus range, and it is one that is going to make many Canon and Nikon users very happy. Zeiss hope that its new Zeiss Milvus 35mm f/1.4 lens will prove to be something of an all-rounder, claiming that the f/1.4 aperture will throw backgrounds nicely out of focus for portrait images, whilst the focal length will make it popular for landscape photography. Combine this will a smooth manual focus ring and it is a lens that will also hold appeal for a lot of filmmakers.
As will all Zeiss Milvus lenses, the 35mm f/1.4 is weather sealed to protect it from all but the harshest of weather conditions. Optically it has a lot to live up to, with the Milvus lenses being some of the best performing lenses on the market. In fact the 35mm f/1.4 features a completely new optical design with aspherical lens elements and a range of coatings meaning that ‘photos are practically free from chromatic aberrations” according to Christophe Casenave, Product Manager at ZEISS.
