The M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm F1.2 PRO and the M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.2 PRO join the existing M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm F1.2 PRO to form a new family of f/1.2 primes.
Let’s take a look at these lenses in more detail.
M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm F1.2 PRO
With a wide focal length well-suited for landscapes and architecture, the new M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm F1.2 PRO owes its lightweight build to newly developed ED-DSA (Extra-low Dispersion Dual Super Aspherical) lenses.
These allow for reduction in the number of elements required in the lens’ construction, making it lighter and also compensating for the kinds of aberrations commonly found in wide-angle lenses, such as chromatic aberration, distortion and colour bleeding at the edges of the frame.
The lens is also dustproof, splashproof and freezeproof down to -10°C.
M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.2 PRO
Offering a focal length of 90mm in 35mm equivalent terms, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.2 PRO is well suited for portraiture.
It produces feathered bokeh at its maximum aperture of f/1.2, and Olympus has used a new design for the back focus and relay lens system that allows for a reduction in the number of elements used, allowing for a more lightweight build. Its lens elements have been placed to compensate for aberrations, in particular out-of-focus colour bleeding.
Both lenses are equipped with Olympus’s Z Coating Nano technology, which significantly reduces flare and ghosting. The Olympus high-precision autofocus performance is present and correct on both lenses, pairing with the high-precision on-chip system in its E-M1 Mark II camera.
Both lenses are also suited for close-up photography, carrying minimum focusing distances of 0.2m and 0.5m respectively. Focusing rings have been placed near the front of the lenses, allowing for handling that complements the design of OM-D cameras.
