Bowens were at Photoplus this year showing off their Generation X range of strobes. These are, fittingly enough, the tenth version of the company’s popular monolights and for the first time there’s the option to link up to a Sony-compatible remote controller as well as Canon and Nikon cameras.
The Generation X is available as a regular mains powered unit but the battery-powered kit is where things get really interesting. It’s capable of ‘Hypersync’ which enables flash sync at up to 1/8000 sec, which coupled with 500W of output means it’s useable outdoors to tame or balance out sunlight.
The system is also still compatible with standard Bowens accessories, which go back 25 years. So if you have a cupboard full of your favourite modifiers you won’t have to junk them just because you’ve updated the lights themselves.
The Generation X will be available from mid-November and a battery-powered kit will start at $1,800 US.
