Two new lenses emerge from the Fujifilm stable this morning: one a 45mm prime for its new GFX digital medium format system, the other an 80mm macro lens for X-mount with a 1.0x magnification factor.
Let’s take a closer look at each lens…
FUJINON GF45mmF2.8 R WR
The FUJINON GF45mmF2.8 R WR joins five other lenses in the GFX range, which began with the GFX 50S digital medium format camera announced last year.
Like other lenses in the range, the GF45mmF2.8 R WR is designed to be future-proof, supporting not only the high resolution of the system’s maiden camera, but also the presumably higher resolutions of those that will follow.
Its construction of 11 elements in 8 groups assures high quality of images produced, with one aspherical lens and two ED lenses. It uses an inner focusing system to move the individual elements, which Fujifilm says should cause a reduction in aberrations caused by change of shooting distance. It also incorporates Nano GI coating to reduce ghosting and flare.
The lens is designed to be taken out and used, not sit in a studio. It’s not only weather- and dust-resistant, but can also operate in temperatures as cold as -10°C. It’s small and light too, measuring just 88mm in length and weighing only 490g.

FUJINON XF80mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro Lens
Designed to get the very best in quality from Fujifilm’s famed X-Trans CMOS sensor, the Fujinon XF80mm is constructed from 16 elements in 12 groups and includes an aspherical lens, a Super ED lens and three ED lenses.
The AF system is designed to ensure tack-sharp macro images. It adopts Fujifilm’s Floating Focus System, which divides focusing groups into front and rear and then uses subject distance to calculate how and when to drive them. This, claims Fujifilm, will suppress aberrations and lead to higher-resolution macro images, as well as meaning the lens stays the same length while focusing.
There’s also a newly developed Ball Slide Sytem, which further controls lens movement by using ceramic balls along the guide rail. Optical Image Stabilization has been included in the XF80mm, which Fujifilm says should allow the user to get back up to five stops of exposure.
A linear motor ensures fast and quiet autofocus. The lens is weather- and dust-resistant, with 11 seals ensuring peace of mind when shooting outdoors. A fluorine coating has been added to the front elements.
For those wanting more reach, the lens is compatible with Fujifilm’s 1.4x and 2x teleconverters.
